Prof. Laurent Fourchard: The Making of Urban Africa: Contesting and Negotiating the Colonial and Postcolonial State

Laurent Fourchard is researcher at the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques in Bordeaux, France, and he has been director of the Institut Français de Recherche en Afrique (IFRA) at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Thanks to his researches in social history, sociology and urban studies, he has analysed the role of cities in Africa, through a comparative analysis of the management of urban areas and metropolitan zones in Sub-Saharan Africa.
